Dr. Joseph Keifer received his PsyD from the Institute of Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University. He completed his two-year APA internship through Widener University at Capital Health Regional Medical Center and Philadelphia Community Treatment Teams (CTT). Before pursuing his doctorate in psychology, he worked full time as a Registered Nurse. He received his Bachelors in Science in Nursing from Widener University and worked in critical care and psychiatric nursing. Since nurses often play a significant role in the care of individuals with severe mental illness, Joseph hopes to utilize recovery-oriented cognitive therapy to help nurses and other clinical staff improve the care they provide their clients in psychiatric and behavioral health settings. Joseph’s dissertation focused on the experiences of first responders (e.g., police and firefighters) who are in recovery from drugs or alcohol and their experience entering recovery.
