Dr. Smith received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College/Graduate Center in New York, New York. He completed his pre-doctoral clinical internship at Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Smith’s training has focused primarily on the provision of CBT-oriented psychotherapy interventions for SMI populations, working within inpatient hospital, community mental health, and forensic settings. His research has focused on issues of internalized stigma, cultural competence, and violence among psychiatric populations. His dissertation, entitled “Evaluating Racial Bias in Inpatient Risk Assessments,” explored the role of race in clinical appraisals of future violence and treatment recommendations.
